Jambhala Dzam

Gold leaf and Chinese black ink, 57 x 76 cm, 2005, with mantra addition 2016

A freely brushed Umed style seed syllable Dzam warmly glows in Pure gold leaf, as if floating on a background of deep black ink, with white splatters like stars in a nights sky. Layered on the blackness is the the mantra of Jambahla, pronounced om dzambhala dzalen draya swaha.

The small Uchen script at the bottom translates as ‘homage to Dzambhala.’ Dzambhala also known as Jambhala, is the deity of prosperity.
