Contemporary & Traditional Tibetan Calligraphy

Title:
Mahamudra

Chinese ink on hand made Nepalese rag paper, 60x78 cm 2006.

A straight forward translation of Mahamudra is ‘Great Gesture’ or ‘great seal’.
However the meaning is deep and vast, a term used for the enlightened mind of a practitioner in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

Here the calligraphy reads phyag rgya chen po ‘the Great Gesture’ in black, under layered in a half tone wash reading rgya, meaning ‘seal’.
